NEWPORT NEWS - Sarah Rachel Gaines Berry is also known as: Pumpkin, Lady, Nana Say, Lady Serenity, Wife and Mommy. At the age of 54, Surrounded by family and friends, Sarah passed away January 9th 2013 after fighting a Brave Battle against breast cancer. Born June 22nd 1958 in Orange NJ to Gussie and Claude Gaines. The youngest to 3 older sisters. Attended Grade School, Junior High and 2 years at Orange High School. At age 36 married Stefurn Berry. They shared a home as husband and wife in Newport News Virginia. Poet, Author, Songwriter, Toastmaster, Motivational Speaker, Mother, Grandmother, Daughter and Wife. Retired from VA Medical after 20+ years. It was being a published author that fueled her life and spirit. Founder of the VOW Network and Black Pearls United. Survived by her husband and four Children: Shyrunn, Shaun, Shakia and Shari Gaines. Four Granddaughters: Jade, Jasmine, Journey and Joelle. Both Parents and In-Laws Carrie and Samuel Holder. Nieces, Great Nieces and Nephews. Children In Laws: Nannette, RoDney and Bobby. Closest Friends: Crystal, Saundra, and Deborah. Surrogate Family and other Friends. Funeral Service will be at Triumph Christian Center 3509 Chestnut Ave, Newport News 23607 at 12 noon today. Sarah will be intered, until Resurrection, at Hampton Memorial Gardens. Thanks to our Out of State Aunts who stepped in to see our family through this difficult time. Also, our Family (Immediate and Extended), and members of Sarah's Foundations and Groups. Your love and Support is immeasurable. You will always be missed, BUT you will NEVER be forgotten!
