William O'Donnell

VIRGINIA BEACH - Bill O'Donnell, devoted and loving son, brother and uncle, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 28, 2012 at his home. Bill was born in Newport News on July 8, 1964 to Virginia and Jim O'Donnell. He attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel School and Walsingham Academy, lettering in baseball, basketball and tennis. He received a tennis scholarship to East Carolina University and transferred to Christopher Newport University where he was MVP of the tennis team. He moved to Raleigh, North Carolina and continued his education at North Carolina State University. Bill enjoyed all sports and after his college years became an avid golfer. He shared his love of sports through his mentoring and teaching. Bill derived great pleasure following the sports activities of his nieces and nephews. He was particularly fond of the many large family gatherings and spending time with friends. He was predeceased by his father, Jim O'Donnell, and is survived my his mother, Virginia O'Donnell; his sister, Cathy Newton and her husband, Bill, and their daughters, Meghan and Michelle, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; his brother, Jim O'Donnell and his wife, Debbie, and their sons, Brian and Kevin, of Houston, TX; his sister, Keri Nimitz and her husband, Paul, and their children, Paul, Cathy, Kristin and David, of Glen Allen; and his sister Cheri and her husband, Andy, and their children, Michael, Andrew and Lauren, of Virginia Beach. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11a.m. on Friday, January 4th, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 100 Harpersville Road, Newport News, VA. A reception for family and friends will immediately follow at James River Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Walsingham Academy or the , 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060-9979.
