Murdie FIRTH Obituary

POQUOSON - Mrs. Murdie Carmines Firth, 96, a lifelong resident of Poquoson, went to be with her Lord on Nov. 8, 2010.
'Miss Murdie' was pre-deceased by her parents, Bertha and Hope Carmines; two sisters, Mary Jane Mason and Roberta Sue Faulkner; and a son, Albert Hope Firth and her husband, John Lemuel Firth Sr.
She is survived by a son, John Lemuel Firth Jr. and his wife, Barbara and five grandchildren, Debra Firth Diggs (Elmer), John Lemuel Firth III (Michelle), Maresa Firth Spangler (Mark), Sheila Firth Logan (Tony) and Albert Hope Firth Jr. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, Jamey Diggs (Lindey), Natalie Diggs Redd, Remle Diggs Sherman (Chris), Madelaine Spangler, Connor Spangler, John Lemuel Firth IV, Mara Firth, Samuel Brown Jr., Morgan Mehalko, Toni Logan and Mary Logan; seven great-great-grandchildren; niece, Linda Christian; nephew, Floyd Mason; great-nephew, Ricky Christian; Bettie and Bud Forrest; and a host of extended family members and friends.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 86 years and belonged to the Ella Forrest Circle. She was also a member of Colonial Chapter No. 40, Hampton, Va., The Order of the Eastern Star, Quindie Roe Council No.42, Degree of Pocahontas, The Rebekkas and was a Past Great Pocahontas of Virginia.
Miss Murdie was the matriarch of her family and true Southern Belle. She led an active and wonderful life and has friends too numerous to count. Her generosity and kindheartedness was loved and admired by all and there was nothing that she would not do for her family. She and her beloved husband Lem owned several businesses throughout their life together including Gloucester Golf Course, where they spent many happy years together working side by side. There was nothing she loved better than a good game of Rook and she was an extensive traveler, having visited many foreign lands.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff at Dominion Village in Poquoson for the wonderful care that she received there during the past few years.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, with Eastern Star Rites prior at 6:15 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at Trinity United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Rita A. Callis and the Rev. Milford C. Rollins. Burial will follow at Weston Cemetery, Poquoson. After the graveside service, the family will receive friends in the Social Hall at Trinity United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1294 Poquoson Ave., or to the Poquoson Rescue Squad, 830 Poquoson Ave., both in Poquoson, VA 23662. Online condolences to www.claytorrollins.com. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
