This is the speech I made at the funeral:Yes I wrote it ahead of time because I was compelled to do so. Please pardon my grammar, I am neither a speech maker or writer, just words coming from my heart, for someone near and dear to it.
Greg will leave an indellible mark on my life through his incredible example of friendship, kindness, love, generosity and thoughtfulness as a person. His all around, everyday persona was just a good, wonderful, happy and giving guy that was as pure and gentle a soul as I have ever known. If you had ever been in his presence, his infectious, livey, yet down to earth outlook kept you upbeat and merry as you went on about your way. The consumate gentleman, Greg was always there with a hug and a smile, kept my nights at work more interesting and entertaining. Weekly and sometimes daily even we reviewed the mundane rituals of life we often hashed out during an evening when he dined with me, often sharing a medium rare filet, asparagus or garlic whipped mashed potatoes, as we delved into the intricate details of life, love, the persuit of wine and happiness. Never a more sincere or devoted friend would you wish to know or to have as a companion was Greg. I will certainly miss this dear man who became someone I was proud to have known and been acquainted with over the years. It was an honor and privelge to know Greg. A truly unselfish, caring, compassionate guy,he really exemplified who you wanted to be. You see, it was I who was the lucky one to have known Greg. I shared many memorable moments with him as we move through this fleeting, crazy, unpredictable incredible thing called life. And yes I was and am honored to know him. Wow, what a guy!

Though we are all saddened by your sudden departure and will miss you, there are better things ahead for you, Greg, than you left behind.

How can I express my sorrow in hearing about Greg's death? Greg was a good friend to so many. When we lose someone we love, it seems that time stands still, But those we love and lose are together with us in our heart and Greg will be with us forever in our memories.

I was contacted and interviewed for my job at JLAB in 2001 by Greg and became friends from the first handshake and smile. He was my Best Man at my wedding in 2005 and I can't even guess the number of times he helped me with life's ups and downs. We talked about bike rides and trips to take when the warm weather got here! I will always remember his contagious smile and laughter that he always managed to bring out in every situation. I will miss this great friend, but I will never forget all the talks and good times we shared! My thoughts and prayers to him and his family. As everyone who has spent time with Greg knows, he was a great friend to have.

Renee,
I never ask for miracles, but today just one would do, to see the front door open and see our Dad walk through. May God's love continue to nuture you and allow you to embrace this change during your time of loss. We love you and want you to know God does too!

In the early days of JLAB, when Greg appeared dressed as a clown for the kids during a celebration, you knew he had a special heart. He was a great colleague and friend. I had the privilege to work side-by-side with Greg for many years and one thing was for certain, he loved his kids and family. We will miss you my friend.

I've known Greg for 50 years and spent most of my time with him in Ohio when we were younger. I considered Greg to be my oldest and my best real friend. He was more than even a brother could be to me and the memories of all the great time spent with him will be with me forever. I will miss you Greg; but I know you are now in a better place. I will see you there some day my friend.

Renee and Isaac, I can not tell you how much I will miss your dad. He was there for me when ever I needed his advice or help. When Uncle Doug died he was there for my family and I am so grateful. My heart is heavy, but I take comfort that he is with his parents and his brother. He is not alone. I continue to pray for both of you and your family. Love, Aunt Judy
