WILLIAMSBURG - Frederick G. Rehbein, 74, died on Oct. 16, 2010, in Williamsburg, Va.
Fred was born April 19, 1936, in Jersey City, N.J., attended St. Peter's Prep in Jersey City, N.J., and graduated from St. Michael's High School in Union City, N.J. He was educated in the fields of chemistry and business. He apprenticed at Onyx Chemical Co. in Jersey City, N.J., which was acquired by Stepan Company in Northfield, Ill. During his years with Onyx Chemical, Fred and his wife, Nancy, lived in Cranford, N.J., where they raised their children. After becoming Stepan Company's International Marketing Director, he and his wife relocated to Barrington, Ill., where they lived for 17 years. Upon retiring, he and Nancy moved to Ford's Colony, Williamsburg, Va., where he provided part-time consulting services. Fred was a member of The Society of Cosmetic Chemists. He was also an active member of the Colonial Area Republican Men's Association (CARMA).
In Cranford, N.J., Fred was a member of the Swim and Tennis Club and participated in tennis tournaments. While working for Stepan Company, Fred and Nancy enjoyed international traveling for business and pleasure. At Ford's Colony, Fred belonged to the Ford's Colony Country Club MGA, Williamsburg National Golf Club, and Ford's Colony Travel Club. He took great pleasure in socializing with his friends and neighbors, and participating in "Black Tie" charitable events. Fred enjoyed gardening around his home, and was especially proud of the beautiful "Knock-Out Roses" which he loved cultivating.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Rehbein and Mary Lowicki Rehbein; his daughter, Kathleen; and his sisters, Irene Darling and Florence Walker.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Nancy; his children, Frederick Rehbein (Anja) of Copenhagen, Denmark, Gregory Rehbein (Sabrina) of New York, N.Y., Carolyn Arciniaco (Harold) of Brick, N.J., and Marybeth Rehbein of Williamsburg, Va.; grandchildren, Sofie Lystoft-Rehbein and Noah-Erich Rehbein of Copenhagen, Denmark, and Dolce' Ventura-Rehbein of New York, N.Y., Jill Arciniaco of Philadelphia, Pa., Kelly Arciniaco of Pt. Pleasant, N.J.; his sisters, Lorraine Miller, Bernice Schafer, and Jean Marie Sadowski, all of Toms River, N.J.; sister-in-law, Nicolette "Nikki" Edwards (Thomas) of Hamilton Square, N.J.; many nieces and nephews, including niece 2LT Rebecca Wilson, N.J., National Guard, and nephew, Matthew Wilson, grandniece, Marly Richards, and grandnephew, Maxwell Richards, all of Hamilton Square, NJ.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, Va. A memorial service at Gray's Funeral Home in Cranford, N.J., and interment at Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City, N.J., will take place at a later date.
The family is extremely grateful to Vijay Subramaniam, M.D. of Sentara Hospital, Williamsburg, Va., and Susan Baudier, R.N. and the staff of Hospice House of Williamsburg, Va. Their compassion and care will never be forgotten.
