James TODD Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - James B. "Jim" Todd, 72, died peacefully at home on Aug. 12, 2010.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Jim made his home in the Maryland and Northern Virginia areas. In 1986, after a successful 17 year career with Marriott Corporation, he opened his first two Roy Rogers franchise restaurants in Alexandria, Va., and later added other locations. As the business grew, so did community involvement. The "School Night" program began in 1996 and generated proceeds for many area schools. Numerous civic awards were bestowed on him and he remained a well-liked and respected member of the Mt. Vernon business community. In 2006, Jim retired to Williamsburg where he continued with volunteer work, enjoyed extensive travel, golf, and the company and support of many new friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bernice Moen Todd; his children from his marriage to the late Margaret A. Todd, sons, James T. Todd and his wife, Susan, of Dumfries, Va., Jeffrey M. Todd and his wife, Becky, of Alexandria, Va., daughter, Judi Todd Darnell, of Alexandria, Va., six grandchildren; his stepsons, Michael F. Moen and his wife, Kara, of Virginia Beach, Va., Dennis E. Moen and his wife, Gretchen, of Richmond, Va., three grandchildren; and sister, Beverly Plappert and her husband, William, of Pittsburgh, Pa.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8710 Mount Vernon Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22309, with burial immediately following at Mount Comfort Cemetery, Alexandria.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House & Support Care of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Pkwy, Williamsburg, VA 23188. Online condolences may be expressed at www.nelsencares.com. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

The Todd family was so kind to me and my school community when Anthony T. Lane Elementary School opened in 1995. Jim was such a committed community member and his kindness and the kindness of his family is a treasured memory of mine. I send my deepest sympathies on his passing.".

I worked with Jim when he was a supervisor for Roy Rogers. I was managing the Hybla Valley shop when Jim acquired it as a franchise store. I remember him as a very honest, hard-working person. I send my condolences to the family. Happy Trails to a good man. Pete Schubring
