Ray CAWTHON Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Ray G. Cawthon, 80, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at Sentara of Williamsburg. He left this world in peace while surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Ray was born Nov. 20, 1929, in North Carolina, to his parents, Roscoe and Lillie Cawthon, who preceded him in death, as well as a brother, Johnny Cawthon; and twin daughters, Sharon and Marion Cawthon.
In 1962, Ray's army career led him to Williamsburg. After serving his country honorably for 20 years in the U.S. Army, he retired in 1966. He then joined the U.S. Post Office, retiring with 15 years of service. He also served as Administrator for the Williamsburg Moose Lodge 757, for 22 years. During his service with the Williamsburg Moose Lodge 757, he became the first person to receive the honor of First Pilgrim.
Ray is survived by his wife of 53 years, Virginia L. Cawthon; two daughters, Carolyn A. Cawthon and Carrie Sue Wall (William); two sons, Ray G. Cawthon Jr. (Kathy) and James David King (Ginny); sister, Audrey Caton (Ed); four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, at Grace Baptist Church, 1013 Penniman Road, Williamsburg, VA. The family will receive friends immediately before the service beginning at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials, in Ray's honor, be made to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd., Suite A102, Newport News, VA 23606.
