Earl BARNER Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Sgt. 1st Class Earl M.G. Barner passed away on Feb.10, 2011.
Earl was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System. Earl entered into the United States Army four days after graduating from high school. On September 30, 1972, Earl married the love of his life Everlena Mangum. Earl earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Earl also was a licensed Realtor. Throughout Earl's career, he earned many awards for his outstanding services. Earl retired from the United States Army, as E7, after 20 years of active duty. Earl returned to the work force after retirement and started working for NAF as Supervisor of Maintenance and later as Training Coordinator until his recent illness. Earl, in his free time, enjoyed bowling, grilling, hunting, and sport events. Earl's favorite pastime was FISHING. Earl's pride and joy was his grandchildren.
Earl leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Everlena Barner; three daughters, Vonita Campbell (Neil) of Clarksville, Tenn., Veronica Mangum of Cheaspeake, Va., and Ebony Barner of Newport News; his mother, Alice Barner of Portsmouth, Va.; seven brothers; three sisters; five grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
Friends may visit from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, at the Carter Funeral Home, 251 Richneck Rd., Newport News, VA. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Colossian Baptist Church, 856 Old Ft. Ebony and Mama Barner.....I am sooooo sorry for this loss. I am in deep shock right now! I will never forget Papa Barner! I wish I would have made it home to see him before this happened.....I will remember him sitting in his chair and ebony telling him that I could sing and he said "sing for me" and when. I finished all he said could say was "girl, go to American idol, you can sang" man Papa Bear im gonna miss you soooooo much
