Bessie ROBINSON Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - On Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, Bessie R. Robinson departed this life in Riverside Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness at the age of 84.
She was born on Aug. 8, 1926, to the late Andrew and Polly Anne Ruffin. She graduated from Huntington High School in 1945 and was a lifelong member of First Church of Newport News (Baptist).
Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Houston Robinson; son Clifford; sisters, Salome Denson, Dora Ethel Floyd and Willie Mae Johnson; brothers, Russell, Andrew, Henry, James, George and Wallace Ruffin.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Patricia; sons, Michael and Eugene (Irma) Robinson; sister, Mary Landrum; and brothers, Cornelius (Annie Mae) and Robert Ruffin; her granddaughter, ShaRonda Holloway; grandsons, Alphonso, Damon, Terrance Robinson and Timothy Brown; two great-granddaughters, Jimiyah and Keyona Burrell; and a host of other relatives and friends. The family would like to especially thank caregivers Cheryl Turner and Thomasena Purvis.
A homegoing celebration will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at First Church of Newport News (Baptist), 2300 Wickham Ave., Newport News. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 1 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday and two hours prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
