Martel HARRIS Obituary
He was born Nov. 22, 1970, in Newport News, Va. He was charismatic and had a wonderful way with people. His laughter and kindness will be missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter C. Harris.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Velma Harris; mother, Sheila Harris Smallwood (James); two brothers, Eric L. Harris (Shannon) and Walter C. Harris III; two sisters, Brenda Williams and Sharon Harris of Washington, D.C.; children, Martel Deon Harris Jr., Seniah Lakie Harris and Demarion Rashaa'd Harris; stepchildren, Larry Record, Precious Vaughn and Zaria Elder; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The Celebration of Martel's life will be held 1p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held from 1 to 7p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at the funeral home. The family will assemble by noon on Friday at 5 Saint Catherine Drive, Carrolton, Va., for the procession to the funeral service. I opened the paper today and was shocked and saddened to see Martel had passed. I hadn't seen him but once or twice since High School. We were close friends throughout elementary, middle and high school. My memories of him are great ones. He was always smiling and made the room brighter when he entered. My sincere condolences to the entire family. My prayers are with you.
