Mary WINEGAN Obituary
Evelyn was a member of Second Baptist Church East End, for many years, and the Orcutt Senior Citizens Club.
She was preceded in death by a son, LaVone Toombs; two brothers, Alvin Toombs and Claude Toombs; two sisters, Gladys Jackson and Elsie Mitchell.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Lindell C. Toombs (Beatrice) and Kelvin Winegan; two daughters, Valerie Toombs and Imogene Williams (Charles); one sister, Jean Parham; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; her nurse, Chanatha Nettles; other family members and friends.
A homegoing service will be held at 11a.m., Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at Second Baptist Church East End, 3307 Chestnut Avenue, Newport News. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Family and friends will assemble at the residence at 10 a.m. Thursday, for the procession to the church. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the Winegan family. Dear Imogene, Valerie, my niece and nephews. Just learned about your loss and while I am deeply saddened, I know she's in a better place. Wish I could have been there for you as you have been for me on more than one occasion. I love you guys.. be strong as I know she'd want you to be. After all these years, I never knew her as Mary Evelyn (my Mom's and Grandma's names) only as Winegan. May God's blessings continue in all of you.
