Audrey THOMAS Obituary

HAMPTON - On Aug. 11, 2010, heaven gained a special angel. Audrey Thomas, a native and lifelong resident of Hampton, went home to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness. Her positive attitude and determination touched everyone around her.
Audrey was born March 24, 1932, and attended Hampton High School, graduating in 1950. She was a retired civil service employee from Fort Monroe, Va. She was also very active in teaching Sunday School, first as a member of Ivy Memorial Baptist Church and then as a member of her husband's church, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Audrey was a volunteer at Mary Immaculate Hospital, a member of the Amputee Support Group, an Avon consultant and enjoyed cross stitching, bingo, and stamping. She always enjoyed meeting and making new friends wherever she went.
Audrey was a special wife, sister, aunt, and friend. One of her greatest joys in life was being "Auntie" to Stephen, Lauren and Katlynn Jones. Whenever possible, she was present to watch their plays, band/chorus concerts, soccer games, and graduations. She loved going on annual family vacations to Myrtle Beach and enjoyed every Christmas and all Birthday celebrations.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Philard D. and Ann Flansburg; her brother, Philard C..; two brothers-in-law; and a nephew.
Audrey is survived by her husband, Robert H. Thomas; two sisters, Hope Carlucci and family, and Mary Ann Smith; a sister-in-law, Sue Flansburg and family; a loving and attentive niece, Kimberly Jones and family; a host of special nieces and nephews; and two best friends, Angela Parker and Virginia Phillips Walker. She will be missed by all and will live in our hearts forever. Even in the roughest times, her courageous spirit shined through.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Peninsula Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at Peninsula Funeral Home with the Rev. George T. Insley officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Dear Mary Ann and families,
It has been many years, but I still remember all the wonderful times I had with all my customers at the hair salon in Hampton. Just wish I could turn back time. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.

Dear Hope, Mary Ann, and families,
It has been a number of years since I have seen either of you or Audrey, but I remember fondly our days in Sunday School, Church and circle at Ivy Memorial Baptist Church. Audrey always had a positive outlook on life and was a delight to be with. I remember the wonderful friendship that our Mothers shared in the church and circle. My deepest sympathy goes out to each of you at this sad time. May all the good, and fun times that you all shared as sisters help to comfort you at this time.

With deepest sympathy, thoughts, and prayers,

Shirley Kemp Barlow

Dear MaryAnn and Family,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences for your loss. I carpooled to Fort Monroe with Audrey many, many years ago and remember her fondly. This only points up how sad it is that we lose touch with those we care about and then it's too late.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
