There are so many good things that can be said about Dad Hewitt that I don't even know where to start. I sit here and start to laugh about the story of when he was fishing on the James River and had to adjust his belt on his pants. While he had his hands full doing that he got a bite on one of his poles so he grabed that one. Then he got a bite on another pole he had set out so, he let go of his pants, (which fell to the floor of the boat) so he wouldn't lose his catches. I know that there's so many other good times that I had with both him & Mama. My heart goes out to all of the family. All I can say is that I know your pain and in time it will ease. I know that he's at peace now & he's with his bride.

Grandaddy I hate to tell you this but I could always bait my own. Sorry, I just let you do it because I know you loved to take care of your granddaughter. I know that everytime I am out fishing I will think of you and just imagen you sticking that squid on the hook for me. I love you very much and will hold the times we spent together close to my heart. I love you.

Grandaddy, we shared many things like our birthday, our love for electronics, gadgets and tinkering. We didn't share a love for fishing though. I remember you took me out a few times as a kid and I got sick as a dog. You were able to handle 6 poles, 3 on each side of the boat. I could barely manage getting bait on one of mine! But you always tried to help and teach me no matter what. We had a special bond since I lived with you for a year as a baby. I remember years later when I joined the Marine Corps and was on a special assignment at Ft. Eustis where you used to work, you were so proud to come pick me up for dinner and show me and my uniform off to your friends. There are so many memories I can't recall all now. I still tell my friends about how you used your shotgun to blow a squirrel out of Mema's Pecan tree, then taught me how to skin it and fry it up like chicken. Rest In Peace and tell my Mom I love her.

What I know best of my granddaddy was how he made sure everytime I visited he would sneak a little money in my hand to make me feel special.Little did I know we all were special to him and everyone who knew him is better off by far.
Love you Granddaddy and memaw! Thankyou for the wonderful family you two started and I'am so proud to be a part of your legacy.

When I think about my Grandfather, I think about him fishing, cleaning, and cooking flounder! Sometimes we get so engrossed in our own lives we forget death comes to everyone. My advice is: never take any one of your relatives or friends for granted, because when they aren't there anymore you will wish so much that you had paid just a little more attention to them! I’ll miss you.

I'll miss you Grandaddy, I will always cherish the times we spent together. Living so far away from you always made it so difficult to spend the time I would have loved to have had with you and Mema, But now just think of all the great fishing you can do up their! Catch one for me Granddaddy Love As Ever Tom.
