Clyde BRYANT Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Clyde E. Bryant, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Bryant; his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Sally Bryant. Additionally, he is survived by his two grandchildren and their spouses, Hunter Bryant and his wife, Kitty, and Dr. Courtney Bryant Parezo and her husband, Jamin; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bryant, a native of Pittsylvania County, Va., graduated from Climax High School, near Chatham, Va. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served as a Naval Aviator. He received an honorable discharge at the rank of LTJG. After the war, he graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Shortly thereafter, he founded Bryant Furniture Company, which he operated in downtown Newport News for 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Garcia and Aylor Bryant; his older brother and his wife, Morris and Odelle Bryant; and his younger sister, Hortense Bullock.
A funeral service followed by visitation at Peninsula Funeral Home is scheduled at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11. Visitation at Scott Funeral Home in Chatham, Va., is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, and will be followed by a graveside service at noon, in the Bryant Family Cemetery, in Pittsylvania County. Immediately after the interment, a luncheon will be held at Green Bay Christian Church. Friends and family are welcome to attend any of the events. Arrangements in Newport News are being handled by Peninsula Funeral Home, and arrangements in Pittsylvania County are being handled by Scott Funeral Home, Chatham, Va. Flowers may be sent to either Peninsula Funeral Home or Scott Funeral Home.

So sorry to read of the passing of Mr. Bryant. It's been many years since our days in DeMolay, but I have fond memories of my visits to the Bryant home and the warm hospitality that I was always afforded.
