Aunt Liz, Wade, Keith and family, you are in my heart and prayers. I will always remember the fun times on Smith Mountain Lake. Uncle Eddie enjoyed all the fun in the lake along with all the kids! Aunt Liz, you are a rock. I pray the Lord will bless you and keep you strong through this difficult time.

I have a great memory of Mr. Welch from back in the 60's and 70's growing up in Beechwood. I remember breaking my foot once while playing with his kids and he picked me up, took me into the house, called my folks and helped calm me down. I will always remember him as a great guy. My sympathies go out to Lizz, Keith, and Wade and all their family at this time of sorrow.

My deepest sympathy to the Welch and Ramey families. A previous entry commented on the great picture of Eddie and I have to agree. I can really see Keith in his father. When he was still able to go to church, he always was so polite and friendly and helped fill the Welch and Ramey pew. May he rest in peace.

What a great picture of Eddie. Liz, Wade, Keith, and family - we know that Eddie leaves behind great sadness and tremendous sorrow, but that is a true testament to the wonderful, caring, and honorable man he was. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers as you go through this very difficult time.

Eddie Welch, affectionately known as “Eddie Bub” in later years, was a friend since 1964 when my wife and I bought a house on Cascade Drive, one street over from Catalina Drive. As I was in the process of screening-in my patio one day, a stranger climbed my ladder and asked “Do you know what you’re doing?” I responded “more importantly, do you know what I’m doing?” He then introduced himself as Eddie Welch and said “I live over there”...pointing to the house just to the right of the house behind us. I responded...”so you live behind me?”. He then exclaimed “no - you live behind me”. A friendly, male competition was born.
Eddie introduced me to boating and fishing in the local area and his wife “Liz” and 2 boys were very compatible with my wife and 2 boys of about the same age. This friendship continued until my family moved out of town in 1979. It was rekindled in 1989 upon our return to Newport News. Needless to say when Eddie’s health began to deteriorate several years ago I was deeply saddened. PSP - I learned from the Internet - is non-curable. True to it’s name it is steadily progressive. Liz, in her caring and giving way, has for the past several years, dedicated her life to the loving care of her progressively failing husband. He released her from this responsibility early Saturday Morning (9/11/10).
Thanks Liz for taking such good care of my old friend.
