Elnora HORNE Obituary
Elnora was born in Lynchburg, Va., but moved to Newport News, Va., at an early age. She was a military spouse who moved many times, but she spent her later years in Hampton, Va. Early in life, she had worked at the zipper factory and for Kresge Department Store. Then she became a full-time homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Lucius Ralph Horne Sr.; and one brother, J.C. Lumpkin; and one sister, Dorothy Minor.
She is survived by two daughters, Kay Bowden and her husband, Andy, and Sheryl Horne; a son, L. Ralph Horne and his wife, Sharon; a brother, Raymond Lumpkin; a sister, Estelle Naugle; a grandchild, Crystal Sullivan and her husband, Greg; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, at Peninsula Memorial Park, officiated by the Rev. Rusty Beck.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Southeastern Virginia - 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502, Phone 757-459-2405 or the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd., Suite A-102, Newport News, VA 23606.

Kay & family,
My prayers are with you through this time. God's heart understands your sorrow...for His compassion is so deep for His children. When the grief overwhelms us...He overwhelms the grief with His peace that passes all understanding. I pray that peace sustains you in the coming days, weeks and months. The Shepherd of Psalm 23 is with you and was with your mother on her journey home...He promised to never leave us nor forsake us. Rest in that promise...

Ralph, So sorry to read about the passing of your Mom. We are of that age when we are no facing the passing of our parents. They were a great generation. Many great memories of those days at Montgomery Wards and the Northhampton area. Prayerfully, Allie McNider
