Patricia LONG Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Patricia Jean 'Patsy' Rice Long, daughter of the late Lloyd Nelson Rice and Lillian Worsham Rice and 'Sister Joseph' (as they affectionately called her) to three sisters, Neanie, Nance, and Donna, died on Sept. 21, 2010.
She was the devoted wife of Gene Karl 'Skinny' Long and Mom to their beloved son, David Lloyd Long and his wonderful wife, Patricia 'Patty' Major Long and adoring Grandma Goo to her precious grandson, Jesse Karl Long and Grammy to her precious granddaughter, Lorelei Patricia Long. She also was Godma to Kristina Marie Ferris and had three very special double first cousins, Norman Rice, John Rice, and Barbara Rice Henderson, as well as three nieces and five nephews.
During her childhood and early adult years, she was a very active member of the First Methodist Church, Covington, Va., and remained a lifelong Methodist attending other Methodist Churches in the area.
Through the years Patsy was active in community service club work and volunteer projects. She was well educated and well traveled and spent many happy years walking the streets of Colonial Williamsburg as a Historical Interpreter. She called it, 'The Walk of a Lifetime'.
There will be a service in memory of Patsy at a later date and burial will be private.
'Thank you for not sending flowers but wanting to send them'.

Patsy was a private person. Her obituary speaks of what she thought was most important in her life: wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt and godmother. One more thing should be added. Friend. Whether it was from school days over 65 years ago or ten years ago we were blessed with her friendship.Thank you for sharing her with us. Love, Bee and Janet Lunger, Waynesboro, VA

I know there is another angel in heaven now - Patsy will be sorely missed by many. I worked with her at Colonial Williamsburg for many years, and she was always a delight to be around, so kind & caring, with a tremendous heart & a keen sense of humor. May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived - and Patsy's life was certainly well lived. She loved well & was loved greatly by many.

Patsy was a great friend and had a wonderful sense of humor. Always ready to try something new. I remember fondly our times at their home when we were first married. I especially remember her making "iced tea". She was a wonderful person and the thought of her will always bring a smile to my face.
