NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Richard (Byrd) Ellsworth Irvin, 42, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 24, 2016. Richard was a lifelong resident of the Peninsula, and was a 1992 graduate of Menchville High School. He graduated from Wreck Master School and was employed by numerous towing companies. He loved doing lawn care with his father at Rick's Lawns and More. Richard is survived by his parents, Richard and Peggy Irvin; his Uncle Jeff Irvin (Helen)' Aunts Diane Singer and Nadine Glass and his cousins, Amber, Kayla, Amanda, Jennifer, Amos and Maggie. Family and friends will gather to share their memories from 2-5 pm on Sunday, December 4, at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to http://afsp.donordrive.com/campaign/RichardIrvinMemorialFund.

I remember meeting Byrd 18 years ago. He made a lasting impression. He had a heart bigger than him, and always had your back. I just saw him not long before this tragedy. He will be missed. Great person was taken but Heaven has gotten a mighty soldier.

My heart has been filled with so much grief and regret at the tragic loss of Byrd! Learning of his salvation and baptism has eased that pain as I find relief in knowing he is at peace with Jesus! I pray that you will all find comfort and strength in knowing that.
My prayers are with you all and especially Mr & Mrs. Irvin. I don't think I've known a man who loved his mother more than Byrd loved his.
