Anita Martinez Obituary
Born in Philadelphia on July 21, 1946, she was the beloved daughter of Carolyn and Jerry Spielberg. Anita was a loving wife, grandmother, daughter, and sister. She worked in many positions throughout her life and loved spending time with her grandsons, Aiden and Reid.
Anita is survived by her husband of 41 years, Klaus Martinez of Newport News; her mother, Carolyn Spielberg of Willingboro N.J.; her son, Michael Martin and wife, Jennifer; grandsons, Aiden and Reid of Greenville, S.C.; her sisters, Sandra Spielberg of New Jersey, and Linda Sibley of Arizona; her brother, Jon Aaron of Florida, and Joseph Kelly of New Jersey; nephews, Ryan and Justin Barkewich of New Jersey; sisters-in-law, Hilde McDonald, and Rosemarie Vick of Virginia; nephew, Wayne Vick Jr., Gerald McDonald, and Jeff McDonald of Virginia; niece, Michelle Vick Munoz of Florida.
Anita was a resident of Newport News for 40 years. She leaves behind precious and cherished memories with everyone who was fortunate to know her. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a love of life that will forever be treasured by family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at Altmeyer Funeral Home Denbigh Chapel.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. I have fond memories of Anita and I working in the camera department at K-mart. We had so many great laughs. She was a wonderful special person who was always smiling and laughing. Simply a hoot!

Ms. Anita worked with our Kinyo Virginia family for over eight years. She was a respected and valued member of our production staff. We have missed her since her retirement in January 2009. We were saddened to learn of her passing.

Anita was a wonderful friend and coworker. We worked together for many years at Kmart until she retired. She will be greatly missed. She was very proud of her family. My deepest sympathy to you all!

Klaus and Michael,
My heart goes out to you for the loss of your wife and mother. She was something of a mother to me as well. She babysat myself and my sister Melissa and my brother John after he was born. I will never forget the days spent at your house. Anita taught me a lot of lessons about life (some of the time she had to scare those lessons in to me since I was a spoiled 7 year old girl) I remember listening to all her old 45's (mostly Motown or Franki Valli stuff) on that little record player she had. I remember her running into the cafeteria at R.O. Nelson Elementary School screaming "It's a boy! Your mom had a boy! Now let's go!" As a matter of fact, when my mother became pregnant, instead of explaining the facts of life to me, she bought a book and dropped me and my sister off to Anita and let her do the job. Anita was also very good to me when my own mother, Ann Amos, passed away at the age of 32 to cancer. I have so many memories of her. I spent a great deal of time with her. I am just so sad to know that I won't get the chance to check in with her again. Please know that you and your entire family are in my prayers.

We sure are gonna miss you aunt Anita. I know that you are out of pain and at peace. Klaus and Mike we are here for you whenever you may need us. I just hope Heaven enjoys anita's famous christmas brownies as much as my kids and i have through the years. You were the best! God bless..

I am so sorry to hear of Anita,s passing,I just want to tell you that she is in my prayers and I will fondly remember her ,I thought of her as a sweet sensitive person and , who loved her husband and family and enjoyed life we met up every now and then at our little local and she was full of smiles for everyone, Klaus my prayers are with you and your family,from your friend Helen.
