Arthur SHARMAN Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Arthur Christopher Sharman, 66, died Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at Riverside Regional Medical Center. He was born in Newport News and lived here most of his life, moving to Gloucester for 15 years and returning back to Newport News in 1992.
Mr. Sharman was a barber for 40 years. In his free time he enjoyed working with cars, telling jokes, and making people laugh.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mary C. Sharman; his daughter, Christine Dease and husband, Gene, of Gloucester; his son, SMSgt John B. Sharman of Navarrea, Fla.; his father, Arthur J. Sharman of Newport News; one granddaughter and three grandsons; two brothers, Bert Sharman and wife, Cindy, of New Kent, and A. J. Sharman of Gloucester; three sisters, Carolyn Bowman and husband, Darrell, and Sharon Sharman, all of Glenn Allen, and Susan S. Dudley and husband, Dennis, of Orlando, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Sharman; and his mother, Betty Paige Sharman.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, March 18, with a memorial service immediately following at 3 p.m. at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Clarence W. Hilling officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 870 Greenbrier Circle, Greenbrier Tower II, Suite 404, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
