Arthur JOHNSON Obituary

HAMPTON - Arthur Johnson, 92, departed this life on Sept. 11, 2010, in Chicago, Ill. He was born on Aug. 16, 1918, in Prince George County, Va., to the late Thomas and Addie Johnson.
He moved to Newport News in the 1930's and worked at Newport News Shipyard and Drydock. Eventually, he moved to Chicago, Ill., where he has resided for more than 60 years. He worked as a cook at the Chicago Yacht Club until he retired in 1983. He was a faithful member of Progressive Community Center, the People's Church in Chicago.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted daughter, Arlene Mason; his grandson, Christopher (Cheryl) Mason; great-granddaughters, Tia Mason, Aaliyah Mason, Kristina Wells, and Krystal Wells; great-grandson, Terrence Hundley; sister, Ellen Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services in Chicago will be held at the People's Church on Sept. 18, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Dr. B. Herbert Martin officiating.
A viewing will be held at noon Tuesday, Sept. 21, followed by a funeral at 1 p.m. at the Berceuse Funeral Home, 2609 Cunningham Drive, Hampton, Va. Willie J. Pennington, Pastor of Light of Hope Community Church, Newport News, Va., will deliver the eulogy. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
