NEWPORT NEWS - SFC (Ret) Benjamin R. Brown, Sr. 78, was born on April 17, 1935 in Buckingham, PA to the late Marion and Eugene Brown, Sr. "Ben" as he was affectionately called, quietly and peacefully entered eternal rest on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at his home in Newport News, VA. Ben graduated from Central Bucks High School in Doylestown, PA in 1955, where he was a standout athlete in swimming and track. After graduation Ben enlisted to serve his country and joined the United States Army in 1956. Ben served 22 meritorious years as an Army Pilot and was honorably retired after completing three tours of duty to Vietnam and achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class. Ben leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memories, his loving wife Marie G. Brown, one sister Marilyn Randolph, two sons, Benjamin R. Brown, Jr. (Tonya), and Gordon Brown, (Yvonne); two daughters Raenonna Prince (Charlton) and Brandy Etter (John), twelve grandchildren, Benjamin III, Stacey, Chelse, Charlton, Sherri, Blair, Cameron, Wesley, Marcelino, Ayanna, Devin and Xavier; two great grandchildren Carter, and Lania, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The viewing will be on Wednesday July 10, 2013 from 12 p.m to 6 p.m. at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th St., Newport News, VA 23607. Home going services will be on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Hampton Memorial Gardens.
