Betty REW Obituary
She was born on July 3, 1930, in Oyster, Va., on the Eastern Shore to Virginia and David Melson.
She was a dedicated nurse for 17 years at Riverside Hospital and continued her service at Mary Immaculate, until retirement.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Farring (Jack) Rew; son, Jack Timothy Rew; parents, Virginia Rolston and David Melson; and brother, David (Junior) Melson.
She leaves to mourn her death her loving children, Connie Jarvis and husband, John of York County, Lisa Cook and husband, Jeff of Carrollton, and Barry Rew and Maria Boyd of Hampton. She also leaves behind three sisters, Shirley Major of York County, Jeannie Mercer of Newport News, and Peggy Fink and husband, Gary of York County. Betty also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren to continue her legacy. Her loyal dog, Katy, is already missing her.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at the Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at Crooks Memorial United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Charles Moore. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the Yorktown Fire and Rescue Squad.

Connie, Lisa and Barry,
We were so saddened to hear of your mom's passing. I have so many good memories of Betty. She was a dear friend. I know how proud she was of all of you and the grandkids, too. She would always tell me about how you all were doing when we talked. We will keep all of you in our prayers as you go through this most difficult time.

In the late 70's I had the pleasure of working with your mother at Riverside Hospital. Your mother was one of the funniest and pleasant nurses I came in contact with.

Dear Connie and family, we share in the loss of your mom. She was a lovely lady who reached out with her beautilful smile and considerable kindness. When Jane first joined Crooks a few years back, Betty was one of the people who made her feel most welcomed. We looked forward to seeing her each Sunday and missed her when we moved on to New Town UMC. You are in our prayers.

When our friends hurt, we hurt. We mourn with you over the passing of such a lovely person. Betty was always so optimistically cheerful, so good to see her coming in the church door. We always shared a hug and words of assurance, that if we both made it to church, all was OK. We shall miss her ready smile, but know that God will heal her tired body, and our hearts. Please accept my deepest condolences at the loss of your Mother. What I remember about her is her sense of humor and how she could talk to anyone and make them feel welcome. I always enjoyed talking to your mom and seeing that smile on her face at Madison and Skylar's birthday parties, you could see the love in her face for everyone that was there. I will miss seeing your mom daily as she picked up her mail across from my house. She & I chatted about her flowering tree & yard info. She was a fiesty and fun lady & I liked her very much.
