NEWPORT NEWS - Beverly Jean Nunn, 77, passed away Monday, April 30, 2012, at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Jamestown, N.Y., and began her life as a career Army officer's wife, living at various stations stateside and around the world. She had been a Newport News resident for 48 years and was a former Cub Scout Leader for 12 years. After raising four boys, Mrs. Nunn pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse and went back to school graduating number one in her class from Riverside Nursing School. She retired from Riverside Regional Medical Center after 17 years of dedicated service to the profession. Later in life, she moved to The Arbors in Port Warwick where she made many new friends.
Mrs. Nunn was preceded in death by her husband, Major Gene E. Nunn; and her brother, Ellis D. Ruttenbur.
She is survived by her sons, Tim Nunn, of Milwaukee, Wis., Kerry Nunn and his wife, Nancy, of Yorktown, Kris Nunn and his wife, Kitty, of Yorktown and David Nunn and his wife, Tami, of Gloucester; her brother, Irwin B. Ruttenbur and his wife, Nancy, of Bemus Pt, N.Y.; her special friend, Dawn Cullins; her eight grandchildren, Erica, Steven, Alaina, Kelsey, Michael, Tyler, Jessica and Jacob; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Providence United Methodist Church, 113 Old Dare Rd, Yorktown, Va., by the Rev. C. Douglas Akers. Inurnment will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2012, at Hampton National Cemetery.
