WILLIAMSBURG, VA - Billie Jean Smith, 83, passed away on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11, 2014. Billie Jean was a native of Jonesville, VA and was a Peninsula resident since 1949. Billie Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Curtis E. Smith; 1 brother and 4 sisters. She is survived by 3 daughters, Beverly Murphy (Louis) of Elizabeth City, NC, Phyllis Horn (George) of Kalamazoo, MI and Diane Smith (Kathy) of Williamsburg, VA. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Barry, Wendy and Alexandra; and 1 great-granddaughter Erica. Billie Jean retired as a Lab Tech from BASF. Following her retirement she was employed with Busch Gardens of Williamsburg. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, who lived for her children and family. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 15, in the chapel of Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. Interment will be private at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 pm on Wednesday, May 14, at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton.
