Ed, I am thinking about you and how it must be hard to believe that it's been almost ten years since your mama passed and that you must still miss her just as much now as ten years ago. I think of how you told me about you and your mama baking a cake every Friday and I think of that when I bake cakes now. I was thinking about the pumpkin costume she made and sneaked up on ya'll, and it tickles me and I am sure you have so many other stories of your delightful mama. My heart is with you and I wish I could be there to give you a big hug. Love, Patti

I worked with Ed for several years and only met his mom once very briefly, but I almost feel like I knew her through her son with his humor and the many time he said "Well, come on". I would always tell Ed that his mama raised him right and he would give a big smile; he loved his mama. My heart goes out to Ed, Ryan, Tom and the entire family, for the loss of one so loved and missed. I pray that God will give you comfort and peace.

Mary, Ed, Tom & Herb,
I am so sorry -- my heart goes out to you all. Callie was such a great lady and a role model for us all. She made your home the place we all wanted to hang out.
As someone said to me last year, "you learn a lot when you lose your mother" and we sure do. It has taken me about 1.5 years to somewhat recover from losing Mom. I had to keep reminding myself that it is part of life and we all survive -- it is tough.
God Bless you all.

Mom, I love you so much. I am going to miss you more than you could ever imagine. You were my best friend in the whole world. I am so grateful that you are at peace and no longer hurting. I will be there with you one day and we will be able to laugh again with each other and share with one another all of the times that we have missed since you have been gone. I am so sorry I didn't get to see you before you left, but tell you all about Hawaii when I see you again. I love you Mom. Mary

Hi Mary, Eddie and Tommy,
It's been a long time but I remember your house was such a home to everyone and I enjoyed being there. Your mom was a wonderful and kind mother. Her laughter always made me burst out too. She's probably laughing in Heaven now. What a great lady she was! Thinking of you and praying for your family,

When I was about 15 I went to spend the summer with Aunt Ollie and Callie Lou took me home for a week , wow I thought I was in heaven we watched Johnny Carson show and stayed up until two in the morning, we had more fun she had Eddie at that time he was only two and so cute.Callie Lou always had fun and made everyone at home, she could be a kid and have as much fun with the kids.
When she had Mary I was grown and had keep several things like my doll bed and cradle from my dolls , I sent them home with her, she said she would take good care of them and several years later I went to visit them, and there was my doll bed and cradle, they were in the best condition as ever.
Callie Lou we will miss you very much but we will laugh and have fun again in heaven. Patsy Lintner

Callie Lou was my second Mom.
Our story begins in the early 1960’s, when Lou, her family, my Aunt Ollie and Uncle Ed (Herbert's Parents) visited us in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Every summer of my youth, it was a big thing when the Hendersons came to visit. We knew it would be a good time together.
Callie Lou was always a ‘cut up’ and was all about having fun. We enjoyed their visits so much. I told them many times, ‘I’m coming up there some day.’ Lou would always say, 'Well come on.'
In 1973, I needed direction and was trying to find my way. In frustration, I decided to leave the mountains so I called Callie Lou to announce my plans. In my naive way, I informed her I was coming to visit Newport News. Can you imagine what ran through her head, with 3 teenagers in her house already? But, this was one time she never stuttered, she said, 'Well, come on.'
Little did Callie Lou know that I would come and live with their family for 6 months and stay in Newport News for nearly a year. Callie Lou and Herbert took me in just like one of her own children, feeding me, advising and trying to help me - while raising three kids of their own.
That experience gave me the direction I needed. And never once, then or since then, was she anything but a lady - and like a second Mom to me.
I’ll miss you Callie Lou and again I say, ‘I’m coming up there to see you some day.’
And I'm sure there was no hesitation, when the Lord said to Callie Lou, "Well, come on.'
