Carl SETTERSTROM Obituary

DENVER, COLO. - Carl Albert Setterstrom, Noted Chemist and Influential Polymer Entrepreneur, dies at 94.
Carl Albert Setterstrom died surrounded by loving family in Denver, Colo., on April 17.
A memorial service was held on April 26, at Parker United Methodist Church in Parker. Carl was born on May 2, 1915, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Carl and Linda Setterstrom. He received his Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Polytechnic University, Cum Laude; and completed Graduate Studies in Chemistry at Columbia University. Carl married Esther (Star) Margaret Peterson on Dec. 25, 1940, in New York City.
Carl was an early pioneer of Polymer Science, his specialties were polymer development and the creation of new companies. Carl worked for Union Carbide, Pfizer, Sun Oil and his own consulting firm. A force for peace, church unity and equal rights, Carl served the Riverside Church of New York City for many years. Carl enriched each life he came in contact with. Carl met everyone with enthusiasm and appreciation and had a special gift of making each person he interacted with feel genuinely valued. He was larger than life.

We shall always remember Carl and Star as our neighbors and friends at Ford's Colony. For a time we lived on the same street with a picturesque name: Dogleg Drive. Carl was one of the early members of our Tuesday Morning Men's Bridge Group. He was a delight and happily served as a foil for our mistakes. Carl and I shared going back in time to the days of the Riverside Church in NYC, with Rev. Fosdick (sp?) presiding during the 1940s. Rest in peace Carl and Star, you will be missed but never forgotten.

We participants of the Ford's Colony Monday Morning Bridge are ever grateful to Carl and his wife Esther for starting this group. Their beginning efforts have given hours and hours of pleasure to those of us who enjoy a great game of bridge each Monday morning.
