Carol PURDHAM Obituary
She was born Aug. 4, 1947, in Newport News, Va., daughter of the late Lars George Larson and Gladys Vick Larson.
Carol fought a courageous battle with cancer for 12 years; during her fight she never lost her faith or love for life. She enjoyed nature and gardening and most enjoyed spending time in the mountains.
She was employed by the Blue Ridge Pharmacy and was a member of Bonsack Baptist Church.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 40 years, John A. Purdham; two sons, Todd A. Purdham and his wife, Jordan, David L. Purdham and his fiancEe, Tiffany R. Brown, all of the Roanoke Valley; brother, Steven G. Larson and his wife, Gladys of Topping Va. The apple of her eye was her precious granddaughter, Abigail Anne Purdham, who gave her the strength and inspiration to carry on the past two years; also surviving are her niece, Holley Ott and her husband, Joey; nephews, Erik Larson and his wife, Patty, and Gregory Chase Withers and his wife, Lauren; her beloved pets, Cody, Paco and Niki; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and other family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Bonsack Baptist Church, Dr. Robert G. Moore III will officiate, a reception at the church will follow, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the Susan G. Komen for the cure, www.komenroanoke.org.

I grew up with David and was at their house most of my childhood. She was always welcoming and made me feel part of the family. Some of my best memories are with the Purdhams. She will has been missed but she still lives on with all the people that she touched.

I'm so sorry to hear of Carol's passing. Carol and I were in the same homeroom 8th through 12th grade at NNHS. She was a kind and fun person to be with. So sorry about Carols passing. She was a very special person, full of faith and courage. She was such an inspiration. When we would visit her, to lift her up, we were the ones that were lifted up. Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in every thought and prayer.
John, I am deeply sorry to hear about Carol. Even though we seldom spoke, she was always in my thoughts and was my best friend.
I remember the year the two of you surprised me at my family reunion-what fun it was to catch up on old times.

I am so sorry for your loss of Carol. We grew up together and attended chuch and school together for all of our lives. I don't remember not knowing Carol. I have many wonderful memories of our years in Seven Oaks. We both were married within a week of each other and I remember that my husband said that after attending your wedding that he was glad that he went because he knew what to expect the following week. I know that Carol has entered into the glorious eternal life that our Lord and Savior has promised all believers. I hope that this will comfort you and your family.
