Carol JACOBS Obituary

BASYE - Carol Lucille Levorsen Jacobs, 73, peacefully passed away on the morning of Monday, Dec. 28, 2009 at her home in Basye, Va.
Carol was born on Feb. 26, 1936, the second of two daughters to the late Esther Allegra Opheim Levorsen and Morrill Victor Levorsen at Six-mile Ordinary in Lightfoot, Va.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Delores Peterson.
Carol was the loving wife of Selby Clayton Jacobs for 54 years, having met in their youth growing up near Williamsburg, Va. They married on June 25, 1955, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Norge, Va.
She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Caroline Young of Upperville, Va.; three sons: Bradley M. L. Jacobs and wife, Carolyn of Manassas, Va., Matthew Selby Jacobs of Upperville, Va.; Lt.Col. Jon Michael Jacobs, USMC and wife, Coco of Gainesville, Va.; and 11 grandchildren.
Nurtured by the close-nit community of family and friends in Norge, Va., and historic Williamsburg, Carol was proud of her Norwegian heritage and fond of her native state. She attended the nearby Toano High School and continued her education at Southern Seminary, Buena Vista, Va., and the Pan-American Business School, Richmond, Va. After graduation, she served as the Clerk of the Court for James City County and Williamsburg, and was elected as Justice of the Peace. She was the secretary to the Army Aviation element Commander, Fort Eustis, Va.
Carol and her family settled in Gainesville, Va., where she established, owned and operated a pre-school and kindergarten – "The Country School," for over 18 years. She continued her pursuit for the development of children until her retirement in 1994, as a guidance secretary for Manassas Park School System.
Carol enjoyed visiting family and old friends from her native Tidewater area, accompanying Selby in travels within Virginia and throughout the United States, and sharing time with new found friends at her mountain home in the Shenandoah. Carol provided many volunteer hours to the 4-H, the Boy Scouts of America and the American Red Cross. She was active in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, receiving the Order of the Rose and a faithful member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Upperville, Va.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Bucktrout of Williamsburg with a viewing scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Norge, Va., with interment and fellowship to follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made as contributions in her name to the Piedmont Childcare Center Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 244, Upperville, VA 20185-244, or a donation to the American Diabetes Association on-line: https://donations.diabetes.org/site/Donation2?df_id=4362&4362.donation=form1, or by phone: 1-800-DIABETES.
