Carolyn BYRUM Obituary

HAMPTON - Carolyn B. Byrum, 68, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, surrounded by her loving family.
She was a lifelong resident born Dec. 21, 1941, in Poquoson and resided in Hampton for more than 45 years as a homemaker. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Hampton since 1969.
Mrs. Byrum was a devoted and loving wife of more than 51years to Joseph E. Byrum Sr. who survives her along with her son, Joseph E. Byrum Jr. and wife, Tammy; daughter, Jean C. Wright and husband, Jeffery; two loving grandchildren, Daniel B. Wright and wife, Michelle, and Ashley N. Harris and husband, Rodney; two treasured great-grandchildren, Nicholas L. Harris age 3, and Justin L. Harris age 2 weeks; and a host of extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving father, James T. Berry; mother, Annie L. Berry; two sisters, Jean B. Holloway and Ann P. Farmer; and two grand-babies.
Through her long years of on and off illness she found great enjoyment in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also very much loved all of her grand-animals as she called them, Buddy, Kona, Chrissy Bird, Monroe, Madison, Jake and Lexi.
Through the years, she always kept her strong faith and trust in the Lord. Those who knew her knew her as a kind and caring person to all. She never met a stranger and would never leave without a hug and a kiss.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and many expressions of love. They would also like to thank the Heartland Hospice Group for their kind love and great compassion through a difficult time. The family would also like to give special thanks to Ms. Ann Curry of Hampton for her longtime love and companionship to the entire family.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, by the Rev. Samuel Hyde, with interment to follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight, at the funeral Home. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Joe and Tammy,
I am so sorry to hear of Carolyn's passing. I ran into Ed a couple of weeks ago and he told me of her illness. I know it was hard for ya'll to let her go, but she now has a new body and is pain free. She is dancing and singing in Heaven with Granny now. I have such great memories of all of us getting together and the guys playing music. I can hear Carolyn's voice when she would say to Joe, "hey Joey, ya'll play Oh Carol". Tammy, I know you remember that. Those were such good memories. Carolyn was a sweetheart and a good soul. I am praying that the Lord will wrap his arms around ya'll during this time, and that you will lean on him for his comfort and mercy.

Joe, Jean, Joey and family...I am thinking of you all during this time. She was loved so so much by you and had the most caring family anyone could ask for. You all were more like family to us than neighbors. I will always remember her smile, and even when sick, she was still smiling...I just know she is up there with daddy now and is finally at peace...
Love and prayers...

Joe, Jean and Jeff, Tammy and Joey, Daniel and Michelle, Ashley and Rodney and babies,

We love you all. You have always been our family's second family. We've had wonderful and sad times together. We love all of you and Carolyn. We will miss her terribly, but she suffers no more. She's sitting in heaven with her parent's and sister's watching over us all and hoping the best for us all. You are in our thoughts and prayers and know if you ever need anything you know to contact the Pennybacker's. We are there for you always, we love you.
