Carrie ROBINSON Obituary

HAMPTON - Mrs. Carrie L. Robinson of Hampton, Va., formerly of Washington, D.C., entered into eternal life on Friday, April 23, 2010.
Carrie was born on March 20, 1923, in Wake County, N.C., to the late Sim McCullers and Carrie Lillie McCullers. She was educated in the public schools of Wake County, N.C. After graduation from Wakefield-Zebulon High School, Carrie attended Shaw University majoring in home economics. This major prepared her for her first position as house mother to the girls at the Raleigh School for the Blind and Deaf. During her tenure at the school, Carrie was introduced to her future husband, James Harvey Robinson by his sister, Martha L. Robinson, an instructor at the school. On May 25, 1951, Carrie and Harvey were united in Holy Matrimony.
Carrie was a gracious, compassionate lady who was well known in the church, the neighborhood and the community. She was a loving, supportive and caring mother, sister, aunt and a friend to many. She had a passion for gatherings with family for holidays, reunions and other special occasions. Other passions included sewing, traveling, cooking, gardening, and working the election polls as Chief Elections Official for the Jones Precinct of Hampton, Va.
Carrie was a faithful and dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Hampton for more than 50 years. Her love for her church was exemplified through her service as president of Church Aid Club #2 and as a member of The Executive Council for well over twenty years. For more than 30 years, she taught Sunday School and followed her students with interest throughout high school, college and beyond. Additionally, she presented the birthday cake and birthday cards during open Sunday School, assisted with clerical activities, Church School offerings and Vacation Bible School. Carrie also presented certificates and educational literature to families during the dedication of babies and for a number of years she gathered with a group of ladies fondly known as 'The Friday Bunch', to fold church bulletins.
In 1996, Carrie was honored at the initial Saints' Salute (a service of praise and honor celebrated by First Baptist Church of Hampton.) On Jan. 17, 2010, she was also honored by The Church School Department for her long term devoted service in their Open Sunday School program entitled, 'Saluting Seasoned Sunday School Saints'.
Carrie is preceded in death by her husband, J. Harvey Robinson Sr.; her parents and her five brothers and eight sisters.
Carrie will forever remain in the hearts of her son, J. Harvey Robinson Jr., of Newport News, Va.; her daughter, Lillie Robinson Harding and 'Barnie' of Atlanta, Ga.; a devoted and loving sister, Ruth Curry of Richmond, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Alice Robinson of Hampton, Va., and Eugenia McCullers of Raleigh, N.C.; one brother-in-law, Herbert Bell of Smithfield, N.C.; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Thursday April 29, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Hampton, the Rev. Dr. Richard W. Wills Sr., officiating. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens. The viewing will be held at Ronald C. Perkins Funeral Home, Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m. and two hours prior to the service at the church on Thursday
Arrangements by Ronald C. Perkins Funeral Home, Ronald C. Perkins Jr., funeral director. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Harvey and Lillie
My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. Mothers are special people. When God created your mom he took alot of time. So remember when all the visits, cards, flowers are gone.Just remember how many lives she has touch with her grace. And that will let know she's in a better place.

Lillie and Harvey, Jr. I think and pray for the two of you. The one thing I remember most about Aunt Carrie is her thoughtfulness. The last time she and I hugged was at the family reunion. For years, I had been in charge of activities for the kids and not one year went by that she did not show up with school supplies or small gifts in tow for me to add to the stash of things to give away. She thougth of others. She will be missed.

I hardly knew this lady but I stood in front of her home 5 days a week insuring kids crossed the street safely. Each time I saw her, she had a smile on her face and a warm greeting came from her mouth. My condolences to a gracious lady who has gone home to be
with her father; Jesus Christ our Lord
and Savior.
