Cathy CHESTER Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Cathy (Washburn) Chester lived a full and joyous life and left for her next adventure on Dec. 26, 2009.
Cathy is survived by many loving family members who joined her in a wide variety of hobbies, interests and passions. Cathy loved riding motorcycles and creating art with her husband and soul mate, Allen Chester. She was very proud of having raised and directed three accomplished and independent children, Kristin White (Hohlt), Sonny Washburn, and Harmony Washburn, each with whom she maintained a very close relationship. She welcomed her son-in-law, Edward Hohlt, and stepdaughter, Sarah Chester, as valuable additions to the family. Myrtle Stout, her loving mother, was a frequent travel and sleep-over companion. Her younger brother, Ricky Stout and his fiancEe, Lisa were a strong source of support, love and a beach house getaway.
Cathy was passionate about making the world a better place through the various businesses she began. Her longstanding business venture, Harmony Unlimited, was developed to bring communities and businesses together for a better world. Her business partner, Jeanne Coates, will miss her dearly, especially on each and every April 15th. She had a profound impact on all who met her and leaves behind a multitude of friends who will honor her always.
A celebration of Cathy's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 30, 2009, at Hoss Deli, in Newport News. Donations can be made to the Hospital Hospitality House in Richmond. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

I am so saddened by loss of bright star in our community. I respected Cathy's artistic flair, creativity and devotion to the growing slow foods movement in our community. She will be missed. Best to her family and friends...

Cathy is a wonderful friend and fun person. She helped me through dark hours many years ago and was always enthusiastic. Her children always were an inspiration for her and lit up her life on a daily basis. Her spirit has always been free and now she has wings to aid her in her travels to other lands and time. She will always hold a special place in my heart as well as others. I will be looking for that special star in the sky, the one that winks when you a just barely looking. Fly free and soar with your new found wings. If the family needs me, just call. Sent from Nashville, TN. Love always.
