Charles ROTHER Obituary

YORKTOWN - Charles David Rother, 71, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, at Mary Immaculate Hospital.
He was born in Baltimore County, Md. He started his military career in the U.S. Navy for two years and joined the U.S. Army in 1963 where he retired in 1983 after 20 years of dedicated service. He served three tours in Korea, one in Vietnam and two in Germany. He was awarded several Military Honors including: the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon. His second career began in 1983 when he went to work for the California Department of Corrections at C.T.F. Soledad Monterey as a Guard. In 2001 he retired and moved back to Yorktown.
Chuck was a member of Howard Lodge #101of Elkridge, Md., 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Valley of American Military Orient of Nato Bases and the Aahmes Shrine Temple of Livermore, Calif., for more than 40 years. He was also a life member of the DAV, Chapter #13, Yorktown, The 196th L.I.B. along with F Troop 17th Cav. Vietnam and the V.F.W. Post #811 of Marina, Calif. He loved the Oakland Raiders and Baltimore Orioles.
Chuck is survived by his sister, Barbara Vogt and her husband, Jack; his brother, Larry Rother all of Newport News; his son, Ronald Kess; and daughter, Susanne Wagner; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three nephews, Robert, John, and Tim Vogt and his niece Debbie Ezzyat.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Weymouth Funeral Home with interment to take place at 1 p.m. at Albert G. Horton Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
