WILLIAMSBURG WILLIAMSBURG - Charles Edward "Woodie" Spencer entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 28, 2010.
He was born and raised in York County, Va. At a very young age, he began working for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. In 1990, he retired from the Landscaping Department, after 36 years of untiring service. He was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. He was a quiet and caring person and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Mariah and John Spencer; and a sister, Alma Graham.
He leaves to cherish his blessed memories, his son, Bryant Barlow; his daughters, Malinda Cooke (Eric) and Vallery Wilson (James); his eight grandchildren; his 16 great-grandchildren; his sister, Lorraine Tillman; his brother, Rudolph Spencer; his devoted care-giver and close friend, Maud Barlow; his aunts, Gussie Judkins and Laverne Faulkin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and many caring friends.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010, in Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Rev. Roland Cuffee officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 3000 Newman Road by 12:15 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Spencer may be viewed on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. The Family wishes to express their sincere "Thanks" to Sentara Hospice Care, Bayada Home Care and Faith In Action for all the loving and tender care that was given to Charles during his illness.
