We grew up with Charles here in whaleyville and he probably spent more time with us than he did at home. The places we went and the things we did will always be in our most cherished memories. We have lost a true friend . A kinder, more gentle person we,ve never known. God bless , Mike and Mark Fowler. Suffolk, va.

I started taking Charles to church with me earlier this year. When they gave the alter call to come down and pray, I turned to look at Charles and he had already turned and was heading to the end of our pew. He went to the alter and gave his heart to the Lord and the Lord delivered him that very day. Im so proud of him because I had often wanted to go to the alter but let fear grip me and stop me from God's touch. What an example he has given me. Thank you Charles.

It was a pleasure to have Martha and Charles a fun part of my life since 1991. I enjoyed all the laughter with both of them. They will be greatly missed but better than that, they are greatly in peace in Paradise with our Lord.

I knew Charles because I grew up in Whaleyville and lived only a door down from him and his family for many years. I knew his parents, Doris and Edgar Knight,(both deceased) and his sisters, Donna Lynn and Mary, and his brother, Wayne. I remember the good times we shared with him and his family. The last time I saw Charles and Martha was at his Mom's funeral, about 10 years ago.I was so sorry to hear he passed away at such a young age.

I was sadden to hear of Charles'passing on Sunday. He will be missed by many of his co-workers, both currently working at CE or those retired. I personally experienced the "Colonels" daily suffering after the loss of his dearest Martha. He was lost without her, but is now reunited with her in Heaven. God Bless.

Charles you are my friend and I will miss you. You are now at peace and out of pain and most importantly you and Martha are together again and ready for an adventure. You both went way too soon; the good ones always go way too soon. Clear skies and calm winds my friend. We will meet again.

Crossing the Bar

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

Charles will be missed by his friends and co-workers at Civil Engineering at Langley AFB, VA. He loved to talk about airplanes, old cars and of course, Martha. God put an end to Charles' suffering and delivered him to the kingdom of heaven to reunite him with Martha. Two very special friends that I will dearly miss.
Peace be with you both.
Always, April
