Charlie E Nelson was a good man with a great heart; he was a person that I could turn towards for advice and mentorship. Uncle Charlie was a man with few words, but you definitely could look at his demeanor for his approval or disapproval to get your answer. As I review his obituary and reflect back on the times we shared and the stories he told during family times, it definitely puts a smile on my face and brings deep sadness not to be able to speak with him again. Uncle Charlie had a particular way to express his love for his family, and he did this by saying he was proud of you. Uncle Charlie’s passions were music, horses, cowboy flicks, German Sheppard, firearms, farming, and family. Uncle Charlie’s departure has left a deep void within my heart, but I’m happy knowing that he is in a better place. Uncle Charlie, you showed me that I could achieve and be anything in life. I’m also proud of all your accomplishments, and the people & students that you were able to help, & the changes they carry over to others so they in-turn can be a positive impact on someone else’s life. Love you always and I look forward to seeing you again someday. Thank you, for being you….

I send my deepest condolences to Mr. Nelson's family and friends. I am so sad and sorry to hear that he died on Monday. May GOD bless him, all of you, and give you peace and comfort.
Mr. Nelson was not only my music and band teacher at Lindsay Middle (Junior High) School; he was and always will be my favorite teacher. Not only did Mr. Nelson teach me to love and appreciate music, but also he taught me to play two instruments and write music. I have wonderful memories of our music classes, marching band trips, Christmas concerts, parades, and cheese and sausage fundraisers.
I loved when Mr. Nelson played the trumpet for us. He was a fantastic teacher and role model. He was tough and he always gave so much of his time and energy to make us better students and better people.
I saw Mr. Nelson many years ago at a music concert in downtown Hampton, and except for some gray hairs, he had not changed much at all. It was wonderful to see and talk with him as we listened to the local bands play.
Music continues to be a major hobby for me, and it has enriched my life so much. I feel very blessed to have known and been taught by Mr. Nelson - the best.

To the family of Charlie Nelson,
I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Nelson. He was indeed a great role model and attended almost all if not all of my concerts and performances at George Washington High
School. I remember many times when he would stop by my office and talk with me about music, and then get me to make copies of the performances that he attended. I will truly miss him and his encouraging words. May God be with you all in this time of loss. I will not forget him...

To the family of "Mr. Nelson",
I was a student of his at Lindsay Jr. High School. He was my favorite teacher and made a lasting impression upon me. His Joy for music and love and care for his students were the foundation upon which my love of music was built. He set an example of dedication to one's craft that I carry with me to this day. He is often in my thoughts and plays a prominent role in a number of my funniest stories. May you find comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on in the hearts of thousands of students he touched over the course of his life. God bless you and keep you Charlie E.
