HAMPTON - Cheryl Carter Morris, 68, a longtime resident of Hampton, Va., passed away peacefully April 23, 2012, at her daughter's home in Hoboken, N.J., with her husband, daughter, son-in-law, sisters and beloved dog, Wiggles by her side.
Born in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., she was the daughter of Dorothy Dunn Futrell Carter and William Madison Carter. In addition to being a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to many, she was a dedicated school librarian employed by the Hampton City Schools for 27 ½ years. She was also an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hampton, Va., serving many years as a soprano in the church choir, editing the church newsletter, and assisting with the church school library. Her zest for life and cheerful spirit led her to enjoy volunteering for the food bank of Hampton, decorating, gardening, watching HGTV and spending time laughing with her friends and family. She also loved listening to her talented husband serenade her on the piano each and every morning.
She is survived by her husband, Al Morris; a daughter, Jennifer Madden and husband Brian, of Hoboken, N.J., Denise Strickland and husband Rob, of Norfolk, Va., Debbie Odom and husband Goose, of Barnesville, Ga.; and Cathie Douthat and husband Mike, of Norfolk, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, Va., from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 27. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 250 Fox Hill Road, Hampton, Va. A reception celebrating Cheryl's life will follow the service in the church Atrium.
