SILVER SRPING, MD. - Christine Reed Houser Richardson, wife of the late Braxton Robert Richardson Jr., passed from this life surrounded by her family on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at the home of her son, Braxton R. Richardson III in Silver Spring, Md.
A native of Nashville, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Georgia Pearl Griffin Reed and William Lee Reed, and the adopted daughter of the late Nannie Lou Hatcher Houser and Frank Moorer Houser.
Mrs. Richardson was also preceded in death by her brother, William Allen Reed; two sisters, Lucille Reed Brown and Inez Reed Taylor; her half-brother, Oral Wesley Reed; and her adopted sister, Elizabeth Houser Pogue.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Braxton Robert Richardson III and Lynn E. Richardson; her granddaughter, Christy Lynn Richardson of New York City; her grandson, Braxton Robert Richardson IV of Adelphi, Md.; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Richardson lived in the Fox Hill community of Hampton for more than 60 years. She was a member of the Fox Hill Central United Methodist Church where she served as a teacher of young people for 17 years, a Women's Circle leader, and a Vacation Bible School teacher. She was a Cub Scout den mother. Mrs. Richardson also was past president of the Fox Hill Home Demonstration Club, and past president of the Francis Asbury School Parent Teachers Association.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at the Fox Hill Central United Methodist Church, 501 Beach Road in Hampton, followed by burial at Clark Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 South Armistead Ave. in downtown Hampton, and from 10 to 11 a.m. the following morning at the church.
