Clinton SLADE Obituary
He was born on Jan. 6, 1951, in Hampton, to Clinton and Ethlyn (Billups) Slade. He was a member of Cary's Baptist Church in Yorktown.
Clinton was a 1969 graduate of York High School and had earned a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Arts Education from Norfolk State University in 1973. He served as an industrial arts teacher for the York County Public School System and worked at Queens Lake and Tabb Middle Schools. After leaving the school division, Clinton was employed with the Holloway Company until he retired.
An avid sports fan, he coached middle school football and basketball for more than 10 years. During leisure time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a big passion for dogs and cats and enjoyed his vegetable garden.
Sharing his memory and love are his sons, Quincy T. Slade, Durham, N.C., and Sarheim Price, Hampton; brother, Allen G. Slade, Yorktown; sister, Leatrice Joyce Grove (Marvin), Newport News; half-brother and sister, Michael Griffin and his sister, Beverly Griffin-Richmond, Yorktown; nieces, Leticia Accoo and Melone Sedgwick; cousins, Larry (Pam), Tracey, and Lamar Slade, Yorktown, Chris Slade (Talisa), Smyrna, Ga.; aunts, Conolia Slade, Yorktown, Harriett Billups Auburn, Ala., Irene Bailey, Hampton; and uncle, Herbert Billups, Hampton; cousins, Courtney (Michelle) Henderson, MD, Christopher Billups, Laura Brown-Banks; as well as a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. Special friends include Donald Hopson, Clyde Holloway and Andre Russell.
Family and friends will gather from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 26, in W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home for visitation. A remembrance service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Cary's Baptist Church, 1615 Cary's Chapel Road, Yorktown. Burial will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.

I still can't believe the news. I have known Coach Slade for many years as a mentor and as my dad used to teach with him. He was such a great man and he really touched so many young lives. He will live in our hearts forever.
