Conrad UNDERDAHL Obituary

KILMARNOCK - On Aug. 25, 2010, Lt. Col. U.S. Army (ret) Conrad R. Underdahl, recently of Kilmarnock, Va., was called home to heaven at the age of 94.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Priscilla Knight Underdahl; his son, John Underdahl of Sahuarista, Ariz.; three stepchildren, Sherry Kympton of Newport News, Va., Jan Ellis of Seaford, Va., and Bruce Grimes of Fargo, N.D.; a son-in-law, Dr. Charles (Sonny) Ellis; and a daughter-in-law, Kira Grimes. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Born in 1916, Lt. Col. Underdahl was the last to remain of the 10 children born to Peter and Ingeborg Underdahl, Norwegian immigrants who settled on a wheat farm in Moscow, Idaho. Upon graduation from the University of Idaho in 1940, he obtained a commission as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army, serving throughout WWII, with the 4th Infantry Regiment in Anchorage, Alaska. His duty assignments included tours in Guam, the Korean War (where he was awarded a Purple Heart and the Silver Star), Panama, the Pentagon, and Puerto Rico. He retired in 1967, and moved with his wife, Priscilla to their beloved home, Dahl House on Indian Creek, in Kilmarnock, Va., in 1970. He was an active member of nearby Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club, serving as Commodore of the Yacht Club for one year, as well as becoming an avid golfer. As a 50 plus year Master Mason and Shriner, he was a member of Kilmarnock's Lancaster-Union Lodge No. 88.

It was very sad to hea rof Con's passing, I always enjoyed being with him and "Pris", we have had a very long friendship and get family togethers over many years, another thing was the visits to the "Dahl" house it was so peaceful and relaxing and the family information talked about was wonderful, in closing I will miss seeing him, with rfegards to the "Dahl" house, my mom June and step father Sammy looked at the house and declioned to buy it but told "Pris" and Con about it and they bought it, my mom bought a condo in Ft. Lauderdale, I had always wished they bought the Dahl house.
God Bless Con and Pris and all the family.
