Coretha Armstrong Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Coretha Browning Armstrong received her heavenly calling on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003. A native of Halifax County, N.C., she has been a Newport News resident for over 50 years. She spent her life in the compassionate field of nursing. She began her career in Wilson, N.C. After moving to Virginia, she continued her nursing career at Whitaker Memorial Hospital for several years. She retired as a school nurse from the Newport News School System in 1982. As a member of Second Baptist Church, E.E., she had been an active member of the Nurse's Corp and J.N. Bradby Missionary Society. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories her husband, Fred E. Armstrong Sr.; children, Fred Jr. (Delilah), Frances, Brenda of Newport News, Nelson of Lebanon, N.H., Mark of Hampton, Va.; a brother, Allison Browning of Newport News; grandchildren, Sacil, Philip, Tenia, Annese; great-grandson, Elijah; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Second Baptist Church, E.E. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Mrs. Armstrong will lie in state at the church Tuesday, two hours prior to the service. Arrangements are by O.H. Smith and Son Funeral Home.

To Tenia and her family, I am sorry about your loss. She was like a grandmother to me since I had know Tenia for 10 years. May God comfort you and you family. Although today is not the same, know that God is, and he promised never to leave us or forsake us. So whenever you get to the point that you feel the load is too heavy, God is right there saying give it to me I'll bear it.



Just know this, You will make it "one day at a time". Why, because your postal co-workers and friends are praying for you. Look up and see God, He is your help and strength.
