I am very heartbroken to learn that such an amazing human being which it was my great fortune and privilege to know in the United States Army Europe, it saddens me immensely to Google him after so many years, hoping to catch up with him, only to see this. I am so so sorry to his loved ones for your loss. Darrell was absolutely one of the most Outstanding Soldiers that it was ever my honor to serve with. He also possessed morals and values that could only have been God Based, he made that clear to me and everyone else. I respected him very much. He also had a delightful sense of humor, always tasteful. He knew his job in Rotterdam better than anyone. I thought "If we get deployed, I wanna be next to Sergeant Roston in the battle". He always treated myself and everybody with the compassion of Jesus. I truly am devestated that I will have to wait till I'm in Heaven to catch up with The Very Honorable Mr. Roston. Gob bless you all. Sincerely William T Baker, United States Army

I had the pleasure of working with SGM Roston in the 8th Brigade. He really took care of his troops. We used to share "war stories" about our teenage children. I will surely miss him.

I'm saddened to learn of the death of my comrade, SGM Darrell Roston. In 1983-1984 then SGT Roston and I worked at FT Lewis and for several months in Honduras. He was just starting his military and I shared my experience being a "Military Brat" because family was very important to SGT Roston; he wanted to make sure his children would be happy if he chose a military career. It's rewarding to know that young E-5 rose to the very top NCO rank. My deepest condolences to SGM Roston's family and friends. I'm glad to have served with such an outstanding soldier.

I knew SGM Roston as a decent human being and a great Soldier. I worked in SDDC as the mail clerk, and whatever we talked about, stopped at his desk. He will be surely missed by this former soldier. Bless & Comfort to his family for their loss.
