David Barnes Obituary
A native and lifelong resident of Hampton, David was a 1960 graduate of Hampton High School and worked 27 years until retiring as an electrician from the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station in 1997.
David was a member of the Newport News Moose Lodge #1119, St. Tammany Lodge #5 AF&AM, the Forks of the River Hunt Club, and the VA Peninsula A.P.A.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith L. Barnes; and father, Louis C. Barnes. David is survived by his children, Steve Barnes, Paula Y. Riley and Tammy A. Smith; his mother, Doris Barnes; sister, Denna Zacharias; brother, George Barnes; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews and his extended family.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, with interment to follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.

To David and Judy's children: I am your mother's cousin. My parents were Pauline and Wilbur; and Aunt Sarah was my daddy's sister. I remember seeing you all as little kids, but have not seen you in many years. I am so sorry to hear about your father. I remember seeing him a few times when we all were much younger. With all of Aunt Sarah's family gone, I just wanted to reach out from your mother's family and let you know someone is thinking of you in a special way at this sad time. I remember that David could do almost anything. He worked in the garden, sold oysters, painted a car, scraped the paint off the house and played with all of us on LaGuard Drive. I am sorry to hear about David, but the wonderful memories we had will keep David in our thoughts.

Tammy and Family,
I was very sadden to hear of your father's passing. He was a great man with a soft voice. I got to know Dave the last session that Ivy Farms was opened, for he was on my team.(We lost in the final round for Vegas)Know that he hurts and suffers no more. For he live a long life and has now entered his eternal resting place, a place we all must go one day. Hold your head up high for he knew you loved him and was there for him. He will forever be looking down and watching over you. Be BLESSED ! ! !

Mrs. Barnes, Denna, and George - I am so sorry for your loss. I happily remember playing in your yard on LaGuard Drive with David educating all the younger children and keeping us out of danger. What a wonderful time. What wonderful memories. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
