David JAYNES Obituary

POQUOSON - CMSgt. (Ret.) David S. Jaynes of Poquoson went to be with his Lord on Nov. 13, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Stepp Jaynes (1990); and her two daughters, Vicky and Barbara 'Shorty.'
He is survived by two brothers, Richard and Bob; and one sister, Carol all of Dayton, Ohio.
Mr. Jaynes is survived by his three sons and their mother, Ursula Jaynes. Juergen, Ralph and Brian Jaynes have tirelessly cared for 'Dad' at home for the last six months.
He also leaves behind five grandsons, two granddaughters, and two stepgrandsons.
During the last phase of his life on earth, David enjoyed the constant companionship of Miss Elvira Thomas 'Granny'. Together they attended the Emmaus Baptist Church in Poquoson where they were dedicated parishioners.
CMSgt. Jaynes was born in Piqua, Ohio, and proudly served his country for 30 plus years starting at 17 years old in the Army Air Corps and continued to serve in the United States Air Force when the two forces separated. He saw two tours in Germany, and did a 13 month tour in Korea. 'The Weather Man' worked long hours during the Cuban Missile Crisis. CMSgt. Jaynes was nominated for CMSgt. of the Air Force but refused so that he could remain at home with his sons. Mr. Jaynes retired in August 1977. He worked on NASA in supplies for 26 years.
Chief Jaynes loved his boys, his dogs and his country. He will long be remembered by his family, friends and those who served with him. His quiet strength and joy filled attitude carried him through a long illness without complaint. His infectious smile relaxed those around him.
The family would like to give special thanks to the following people: Eric, Margretta, Chiquited, and Juliana Jaynes for the excellent care that they provided to David Jaynes during the last six months.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Dan Marion Foundation, due to one of Mr. Jaynes' grandsons being autistic. The Dan Marion Foundation comprises of four universities that are recognized as leaders in the field of autism research. www.danmarinofoundation.org/donate.html
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Emmaus Baptist Church in Poquoson. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
Friends are encouraged to visit www.parklawn-woodfh.com to share memories and words of comfort with the family.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

I miss you so much Grandpa:( You were seriously one of the best people I've ever known. I'll never forget going to your house and playing with your dog and all your games, and you always offering me a soda and not taking no for an answer. And you always had cookies or cake and ice cream and coffee for us, too. And when you got a snuggie but pink was the only color they had left so you got a pink snuggie! And when we got you a beta fish for Father's Day one year, and you went through Bubba I II III IV V VI VII and I'm pretty sure VIII too!
I love you lots Grandpa, and I miss you so much. Watch over me<3
