Thank you for all the kind words everyone left about the loss of my mama. She is truely and keenly missed and everyday that goes by without her my heart breaks a little more at the great loss we have suffered. My comfort is that she is in Gods arms and is with my dad and her soul mate, along with many others that she loved who proceeded her in death. She was my angel on earth and is now my angel in heaven. I love her and miss her so much!

I met Debbie at the Casting For Recovery Retreat last MAY(2008) where she touched the hearts, souls and spirits of all of us there in just a few short days. Her courage and commitment to bring joy and positive energy to those around her infused our weekend with a spirituality rarely found.

Debbie was and will be remembered as a remarkable person.
You were blessed to have her in your lives as was I, for those few short days.

Our Prayer for those she loved so deeply is that you draw close to God and to each other, this is what she would want for all of you. Stacy and Kenny you had a wonderful mother. Savannah and Austin, what a great grandma. Her love for you was all emcompasing. And Betty, no daughter could love you more and you her.
What an inspiration to all and what an example to all of us of strength in adversity of life.Debbie fought the good fight, and we know that she is hearing the words of the master, telling her "Well done my good and faithful servant, enter in.
Rest in Peace Dear Debbie, no more pain no more suffering Only Joy.

Dear Stacy – I wanted to drop you a little note to first express my sympathy, and tell you that I won’t be able to make the services for your Mom, as I am currently caring for my Mom who has Alzheimer’s. But if I had been there, I would want to say the following to you.

I admired your Mother very much. She was beautiful, courageous and one of the sweetest people I have ever met. But as much as I admired your Mom, I admire you more. Your Mom didn’t have a choice in dealing with her illness, it is the hand God dealt her, but you did have choices, and from where I sit all the choices you made were full of love and unselfishness. You were your Mother’s care taker, provider, health advocate, support and a friend. God has a name for people like you – it is called Angel. Your Mom is now your guardian angel in heaven, but knows that you were her guardian angel while she was here on earth. She was blessed to have you for a daughter.

Know that all of us up here in Maryland want to remain in your life and will be here to support you as you face the road ahead.

Love,

Mary Collins

I met Debbie at the Casting for Recovery retreat in May 2008. I have many fond memories of the wonderful staff at the retreat who helped me learn the basics of fly fishing and skills for life. I have many fond memories of Debbie and the survivors at the retreat, and our late night discussions as we talked and laughed and cried about our journey on the road to recovery from cancer. Most of all, what I remember about Debbie is that beautiful, radiant smile.

Last spring I sent Debbie a photo I took at the Tidal Basin during the Cherry Blossom Festival which included my favorite Japanese Shrine surrounded by a sea of blossoms. That photo initiated a series of correspondence between us, and in each message I received from Debbie I found inspiration and hope.

Debbie has touched the lives of so many cancer survivors. We will miss you, my friend.

I send my love and heartfelt sympathy to Debbie’s family.

Sincerely, Darci Birmingham

Stacy and Kenny,

Our deepest sympathy go to you for the loss of your mom. Debbie and I were James Blair classmates and also sorority sisters. I always remember her with a smile on her face and a calm, even tempermant. She never seemed to be bothered by anything. I know her faith was strong and it kept her going for this long. I only hope to be half as upbeat as she was if something ever happened to me. Take peace in knowing she was well-loved by all that came to know her. She is in God's hand now. God bless you during this time.

Debbie put a brave and courageous face on during her battle with cancer even when she was feeling terrible from the side effects from treatment. I met her during one of my treatments at PCI and we became each others support during some tough times. She had a a very gentle spirit and I will miss her terribly. I am happy for her that she is not suffering anymore.

Stacy, Kenny and family members our hearts go out to you in your loss. We grieve with you during this time as Debbie is our loss, too. What a treasure of a friend! What a model of faith! She has written a legacy of hope on the hearts of many.

Her struggle was valiant for she wanted to enjoy more time with you, her family, the center of her universe, and God allowed her to see you grow in faith and maturity. You will miss her! We will miss her! Now she is truly at rest with our God.
