Dennis COGLE Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Dennis K. Cogle, a resident of Williamsburg since 1946, died June 14, 2010.
Dennis was born June 2, 1920, in Petersburg, Va. Following high school and early work experiences, he spent nearly four years in Europe as a member of the Army Signal Corps during World War II.
When he returned from military service, Dennis enrolled at the College of William and Mary. He received a BA degree in Accounting and, later, an MBA from the College.
Dennis retired in 1986 after 28 years as an administrator at the College of William and Mary, serving as Director of Personnel, Director of Budget and Finance, and Assistant Vice President for Business Affairs.
Dennis' great love was singing. He was a soloist and singer in the College of William and Mary Choir and in the Williamsburg Baptist Church Choir. He performed for many years for Colonial Williamsburg events. He sang in the Williamsburg Choral Guild and the Dukes of Gloucester barbershop group.
Dennis served in many leadership positions in the Williamsburg Baptist Church, and with community organizations in Williamsburg, including the Williamsburg Community Hospital Auxiliary, the Rita Walsh Adult Skills Program, the German Club, and the St. Andrew Society. He managed the AARP Tax preparer program at the Williamsburg Regional Library for several years after retirement. He was a 12 gallon blood donor for the Red Cross.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean; and his two daughters and their husbands, Patty and Andy Ballentine of Williamsburg, Debbie and Mike Lamb of Ashburn, Va.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 20, at the Williamsburg Baptist Church on Richmond Road followed by a reception. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Dennis asked that memorial donations may be made to The Williamsburg Baptist Church, 227 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185; or to the College of William and Mary for Financial Aid, P.O. Box 1693, Williamsburg 23187-8779. Indicate "in memory of Dennis Cogle." View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Sincere condolences to Dennis' family. I recall vividly his dedicated service as a choir member and soloist at 2nd Baptist in Petersburg long ago. I pray that God will comfort each of you during this time of separation. It's only for a little while.
