Dollie SPEIGHT Obituary
Dollie was a native of Black Creek, N.C., and was a Peninsula resident for 30 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved to cook, enjoyed reading the bible and spending time with the family.
Dollie was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dalton Speight.
She is survived by two sons, Dalton W. Speight Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, Johnny Ray Speight and his wife, Cheryl, all of Hayes; a daughter, Deborah Bush of Gloucester; a sister, Doris Ethridge and her husband, Ray of Wilson, N.C.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, in the chapel of Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. The family will receive friends following the service. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

My heart goes out to the Speight family. Very sorry to hear of your loss. Growing up in the neighborhood and hanging out at your house was one of the highlights of my childhood. Thank you for those memories.

To my dear friends, the Speight family, it is hard to find the right words to say at a time like this. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. It saddened my heart to hear of the passing of your mother. I have never known a more generous and caring lady. She was a mother to everyone. So sorry to hear about the passing of your loving mother. I have wonderful memories of hanging out at the "Speights" house throughout my teenage years. So glad she and her whole family were a part of my life. Again, my deepest sympathy.

Danny, Johnny and Debbie,
Your mother was a wonderful person and loved by many. I talked to her a few months back and she sounded so peaceful and happy. Heaven and your dad have to be rejoicing with her arrival. Keep the wonderful memories of a great lady in your heart. Thinking about you all. Take care.

I will always have found memories of my Aunt Dollie. I loved her so much. She spoiled me rotten while spending time at her house as a child including making me those famous cabbage rolls I loved so much. Debbie, Johnny & Danny.. I am sorry for your loss as well as everyone's who knew her.

We were neighbors for years. I know Mrs. Speight cared a lot about me and my two young sons. I always felt loved & encouraged when I visited her. I enjoyed hearing her stories and she was a good listener, too.
