Dorothy RICHARDSON Obituary

TOANO - The Lord called our beloved Deaconess Dorothy L. Richardson home for eternal rest on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Her life's journey began on Dec. 5, 1921, the daughter of the late Azellia and Charlie James Fields.
Dorothy was a faithful member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. She served her church as a Deaconess, a member of the Pastor's Aide and she sang with various choirs. After her health began to decline, she joined hands in fellowship, as a watch care member, with Chickahominy Baptist Church. She was a devoted servant of God and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Nathaniel Richardson; her son, Douglas McArthur Richardson; her sisters, Mary Fields, Sara Hill and Claudette Fields-Martin; her brother, Willie Fields; a grandson, Deon Sellers; and a great-granddaughter, Kateen Randall.
She leaves to cherish her blessed and loving memories, her children, Carolyn Tatum (Jimmy), Edith Wynn, Joyce Easterling, Jean Jones, Ella Dale (Gerald) and Lloyd Richardson; her brothers, James Fields (Norma) and Eugene Fields (Jean); her sister-in-law, Helen Fields; her daughter-in-law, Ida Richardson; her 27 grandchildren; her 49 great-grandchildren; her 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and many caring friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2010, in Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Bishop William M. Dawson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 3087 Friendship Drive by noon Saturday. Deaconess Richardson may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday (tonight) in the funeral home.
Professional service entrusted to the staff of Whiting's Funeral Home, 7005 Pocahontas Trail Williamsburg, Va., 757-229-3011. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

I was truly saddened to hear of Deaconess Richardson's passing. Growing up with the grandchildren and seeing her weekly at church gave me the opportunity to get to know her better and see how truly special she was to all. Deaconess Richardson always greeted everyone with a wonderful smile and kind word. Such a beautiful spirit, she will truly be missed. May God bless and keep you'll at this difficult time. Keeping you'll in our thoughts and prayers.
