WILLIAMSBURG - Mr. Edmund Branch Meanley Sr. died Nov. 3, 2010. He was born on July 19, 1924, in Toano, Va., to parents, Ira S. and Katherine Meanley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen Watkins Meanley; a brother, Ira S. Meanley Jr.; and sister, Katherine Phillips.
He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Crenshaw; his son, Edmund Branch Meanley Jr. and wife, Michele, of Matthews, Va.; his daughter, Kate Francis, and husband, Nash, of Williamsburg, Va. ; daughter, Lou-Ann May, and husband, Ron, of Chicago, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Holly Nordham; and five grandchildren, Jennifer Meanley, of Greensboro, N.C.; Brian Meanley, of Portsmouth, N.H.; Walker Francis, of Williamsburg, Va.; Jeb Francis, of Williamsburg, Va., and Brandon May, of Richmond, Va.
He was an avid outdoorsman all his life and enjoyed all types of hunting and fishing and the comradeship it offered. He will be missed by all but none more than his faithful companion of the last 11 years, his beloved chocolate lab, Nicky. Nicky helped him to extend his hunting activity into his 80's as she retrieved the birds he downed while perched on the tailgate of his truck.
The family will receive guests on Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd, Williamsburg. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hickory Neck Episcopal Church, 8300 Richmond Rd, Toano, Va. Please join the family at the home of his daughter, Kate, following the service.
