Elizabeth CROSS Obituary

YORKTOWN - Elizabeth 'Libby' C. Cross, 80, passed away quietly on Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, with her loving family by her side.
Her everlasting love for her Lord was attested to by a small angel she had held tight in her hand for many days. A native of Statesville, N.C., she had been a Yorktown resident for 15 years.
Libby graduated from Warwick High School (Farmers) in 1947 where she was cheerleader and actively involved in many school clubs. She was a member of the Jr. Woman's Club and the Azaela Garden Club where she was highly awarded for her flower arranging. She was involved in the early days of Briar Queen Swim Team where she was a scorekeeper. She was a substitute teacher and taught adult education for Hampton City schools. She also enjoyed watching her grandkids in their many activities.
She was preceded in rest by her husband of 53 years, Aubrey E. Cross; her parents, Marshall P. and Texas Belle Crowell Sr.; and brother, Marshall P. Crowell Jr.
Libby is survived by her sons, Steven M. Cross and his fiancEe, Cindy Thompson, and David A. Cross; grandchildren, Laura Welton and husband, Richard, Joel Cross and Heather Monteith, Matthew, Joshua and Noah Cross; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Ethan, and Ryland Welton, Skyler Cross, and Payton Monteith. She is also survived by two nieces, one nephew, an aunt and many other relatives.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Libby's life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
Special thanks to caregivers Daisy Washington, Ester Williams and Doris Campbell.

David, Steve, and family, We are so sorry for your loss but are thankful Libby does not have to suffer anymore. The grandchildren loved running over to take her mail or some goodies and looked forward to the candy or crackers she would give in return. (On our way to the mountains two summers ago as we stopped at a Ukrops in Richmond, Derrick said "Grannie, get Miss Libby some bananas." We will miss her being next door but are thankful she could be a part of our grandchildren's lives for a few years. Let us know if there is anything we can do. Your family is in our prayers.
